Kyosho Wave Chopper 2.0 : Notre test du Jet Ski RC incontournable en 2026

As the warm weather of 2026 approaches, we’re feeling the call of the water! To celebrate, we headed to the Mediterranean to put one of the season’s most fun models to the test: the Kyosho Wave Chopper 2.0. This radio-controlled jet ski, which comes fully ready to ride (Readyset), promises ultra-accessible water sessions with absolutely no hassle. Here’s a look back at our sea trial of a machine that’s full of character.

The Return of a Legend in Model Boating

This model has a long history. It was in 2001 that the Japanese brand Kyosho launched the very first version of this RC jet ski. Given the resounding success of its original concept, the manufacturer decided to modernize the model to bring it up to today’s standards. The Wave Chopper 2.0 thus retains the spirit of its predecessor, with an ultra-detailed design and an integrated pilot that significantly enhances realism on the water, while benefiting from a complete electronic overhaul.

Design, Powertrain, and Water Resistance

Beneath this stunning hull (available in two colors) lies a mechanical system designed for instant enjoyment. The RC boat is powered by a brushed water-cooled motor, paired with a ESC that offers exceptionally smooth throttle response. To improve handling, Kyosho has also redesigned the entire steering system and drivetrain.

In terms of internal design, the hull houses two separate compartments: one at the front for the motor, the other at the rear for the electronics (ESC, receiver, and steering servo). Waterproofing is achieved quite simply using plastic covers sealed with duct tape. While this “old-school” system may seem surprising at first glance, it proves remarkably effective at protecting the radio-controlled electronics. Just be sure to bail out the engine compartment a bit if you’re navigating very choppy waters.

On-the-Water Test: Stability and Pure Fun

From the very first bursts of speed, the Kyosho Wave Chopper 2.0 puts a smile on your face. The power output is more than enough to cut through the waves with dynamism. Its greatest strength remains its very stable handling: the jet ski is incredibly stable and easily forgives piloting errors. When it jumps over the waves, its behavior in the air is astonishingly realistic, offering superb views to spectators on the beach.

Can it be used in saltwater? Essential maintenance

Although our video was filmed at sea to take advantage of the open water, it’s crucial to remember a golden rule of model boating: the manufacturer advises against use in saltwater (this may void the warranty). Seawater is the sworn enemy of mechanical components.

However, if you decide to take the risk to enjoy the ocean waves, thorough post-session maintenance is mandatory. You’ll need to rinse the model thoroughly with fresh water, dry it carefully, and spray a water-repellent lubricant (such as WD-40) on all metal parts to prevent corrosion.

Conclusion: The Readyset (RTR) is perfect for summer

.

Sold as a Readyset (RTR), this jet ski comes with absolutely everything you need to hit the water: the radio controller, a battery providing about 15 minutes of runtime, and a very convenient USB charger. It’s the ultimate “must-have” purchase for all modelers looking to diversify their activities this summer with a fun, high-performance, and visually stunning machine.
