Stickers can be applied to any bodywork and add the finishing touch to the look of your RC car. Applying these stickers is generally not complicated, except when it comes to sticking them precisely onto bodywork with complex curves. Follow our advice to achieve a professional finish.
Mark the location of each sticker
Before applying the stickers, it is essential to visualize their placement and the final result. Once you know what you want, draw the edges of each sticker on the body with a pencil.
Wash your hands thoroughly
Before you start placing stickers on the bodywork, wash your hands thoroughly. Even after washing, your hands will still be covered in natural oils that can transfer to the surface and prevent the sticker from adhering properly. So avoid touching the bodywork more than necessary.
Clean the bodywork
Make sure the bodywork is completely clean and free of dust or lint. If necessary, use a bodywork cleaner and a microfiber cloth to clean the area you are going to work on.
Apply soapy water
Brushsoapy water (or dishwashing liquid diluted in water) onto the car body and the sticky side of the sticker, which will allow you to readjust the position of your sticker by sliding it. Once it is in the right place, remove the film from under the sticker using a credit card or other makeshift scraper and make it adhere to the surface by heating it with a hair dryer. You will be amazed at how much better the stickers look when you use the soap trick.
Use tools
Small stickers can be difficult to place accurately. Instead of struggling with a small sticker on your fingertip, use the tip of a scalpel. This will allow you to be much more precise, and the decals will look better without your fingerprints on the back.
Similarly, if you want an even more professional result, this will be very useful for trimming the excess transparent material around the sticker design. You can also use a cutter to remove wrinkles and bubbles: a small hole in a bubble or a slit in a ride will improve the appearance of the sticker by smoothing it out.
Heat the sticker
Applying stickers to curved and hollow areas of the bodywork is difficult. A hair dryer is a useful tool for dealing with this problem. Warm up the sticker with the hair dryer to make it more flexible, so that you can work it around the curve and apply it smoothly. Be careful not to overheat and damage the sticker and/or the car body.
